Andaman girl selected as probable for Jr world cycling

Port Blair, Apr 5 (UNI) A girl from the tsunami-ravaged Car Nicobar region of the Andaman and Nicobar islands has been selected as probable for the Junior World Cycling Championship to be held in Cape Town, South Africa.

Ms Maggie is a cyclist under training with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Special Area Games Centres, Port Blair.

Ms Maggie, accompanied by coach Subhendhu Sengupta, has already left for the National Coaching Camp for the Indian team to be held at the Punjab Agriculture University Sports Complex at Ludhiana from April 7.

She was initially selected up by the Sports Authority of India from a tsunami relief Camp at Car Nicobar in March, 2005, and since then she is undergoing training in the SAI Centre at Port Blair, SAI Deputy Director in Andaman, Joy Kumar Roy told UNI today.

She had represented the Andaman and Nicobar islands in the National Cycling Championship at Hyderabad and won two silver and two bronze medals for the islands.
