Amritsar, Apr 4 (UNI) A woman sarpanch, a retired armyman and a panchayat member were booked here today for allegedly committing fraud under the shagun scheme launched to help poor Dalits in marrying off their daughters.
According to SHO Naurang Singh a case has been registered in Ajnala police station against Granthgarh village Sarpanch Kashmir Kaur, Retd captain Niyamat Masih, member panchayat Avtaar Singh for trying to take money twice under the scheme.
They first took Rs 6100 under 'shagun'' scheme for the marriage of Capt (retd) Masih's daughter Raj, who was not even entitled to get the benefit as only dalits with income less than 16000 annual income were entitled for the scheme.
The trio again made a fraud case for her marriage seeking Rs 15,000, the SHO said.
They have been booked under Section 420, 467, 468, 471 of the IPC. However, no arrests have been made so far.
