Lucknow, Apr 4 (UNI) On the directives of the Uttar Pradesh government, police and jail authorities today conducted special raids at the central and district jails across the state yielding a large quantity of incriminating articles, including drugs, television, tobacco and other eatables.
During a raid at Ghazipur prison, Anil Kumar Rai was apprehended after being spotted inside the jail without permission.
Action against Head Warden Ramkant would be taken in this regard.
Similarly, in Bareilly jail, police recovered television sets in the cell of mafia don Bablu Srivastava and his close aide Mange.
Both the criminals remained unpresent in the jail, as they had to appear before a Lucknow court today.
The raids were conducted in 14 jails of the state and during the search operation at Deoria prison, cops recovered a small drugs packet and bottle of a banned medicine.
Likewise, the authorities sezied a large number of bidi, gutka packet, match boxes, blades, sizors, small knives and even used packet of smack outside the barracks in Behriach, Bareilly, Ghazipur, Deoria, Kanpur and Rae Bareli jails.
Addtional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal here said the raids were conducted in 14 jails at 1300 hrs.
''It is a routine affair to inspect jails on regular intervals, but special raids are ordered time to time to keep the prison clean from illegal things possessed by the inmates,'' sources maintained.
During similar raids in the jails on Noverber 18 last, police had recovered several illegal items. Sevarl mobile phones, electronic gadgets, eatables and other luxury items had been recovered.
