SCCL registers record production

Hyderabad, Apr 4: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has registered a record production of 40.60 million tonne during the ''strike-free'' 2007-08 against the Centre's target of 39.5 milion tonne, its Chairman and Managing Director S Narasinga Rao said today.

He told a press conference here the SCCL planned to set up 500 MW power plant in Adilabad District and acquire the SMS Explosives Plant at Godavarikhani and Manuguru. For the sixth year in succession, the company had achieved coal production target after the spectacular turnaround in 2002-03. With a turnover of Rs 5,157 crore during the year, the SCCL had achieved a profit before tax of Rs 270 crore as against Rs 117 crore in 2006-07. ''The profit after tax is likely to be Rs 190 crore this year,'' he informed.

The SSCL had set an internal target of 43.56 million tonne for 2008-09, including a production of 30.25 million tonnes from open cast mines, he said.

The cost of producing coal in UG mines was brought down by Rs 150 per tonne by increasing productivity.

The company had introduced E-auction of coal to facilitate consumers across the country to book coal online, he said, adding 9.9 lakh tonne of coal had been e-auctioned and company had obtained additonal revenue of Rs 71.27 crore.
