Mumbai, Apr 4 (UNI) Ruling out Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar appearing for the Kolkata Knight Riders until the Pakistan Appellate Tribunal clears him from the five year ban, Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman Lalit Modi today said the Pak Cricketer was still contracted to IPL and through it to the Kolkata team.
Talking to newsmen here, he said the contract of Shoaib was still valid. However, the rules of Board of Control for Cricket in India did not permit a banned player of other country to play in the IPL.
''We cannot have a situation, where a player banned for any reason, is harboured by the IPL,'' he added.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders franchise, and film actor Shahrukh Khan has stated that he would seek the intervention of the IPL bosses to ensure that the Pak speedster was available for the Inaugural DLF IPL, kicking off on April 18 at Bangalore.
