London, Apr 4 : Sir Salman Rushdie has vowed to keep his private life under wraps, following his split with fourth wife Padma Lakshmi.
Rushdie said that rather than entering into a war of words with his supermodel ex-wife, he would prefer to keep silent on the issue.
"I think there's been too much of my life in public - divorce is a very difficult thing and it was very painful for me. I think the only shred of dignity that remains in these situations is to keep your mouth shut," The Daily Express quoted Rushdie, as saying.
Speaking for the first time after his "emotionally violent" split last year from the Chennai-born model and actress, Rushdie said "it provoked a crippling bout of writer's block which threatened to end my literary career."
"I got very worried that I'd lost it because the break-up of my marriage suddenly intervened in an extremely emotionally violent way and there were two months or so - May, June - where I really couldn't work," he added. The 60-year-old said that this is the last time he married.
"Even my children now tell me not to do it again," he said.
Rushdie has two kids; Zafar from his first marriage, and Milan from his third marriage.
