Punitha Japamaalai Annai Church to reopen shortly

Puducherry, Apr 4 (UNI) The Punitha Japamaalai Annai Church at Eariyur in Villupuram district, which was closed following the death of two people in police firing, was likely to reopen shortly.

Following a settlement reached between Dalit Christians and others, delegations of both the parties called on Arch Bishop of Cuddalore and Puducherry Diocese Rev Anthony Anandarayar at the Bishop house this evening and urged him to take steps to reopen the church soon.

According to Bishop house sources, the Bishop informed them that he alone could not take a decision and hence it would be decided at a meeting of all the priests here on April nine.

A full-day fasting and prayers would be conducted in the church on the opening day, the sources added.
