Jammu police cracks Shimla double murder case, one arrested

Jammu, Apr 3 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today solved the Shimla double murder case in a short span of four-days, in which two Jammu based gangsters were shot dead on intervening night of March 28-29 in Shimla and arrested one of the accused here today.

Addressing a press conference this evening, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Jammu range, Farooq Khan said, three people were involved in the killing of two Jammu based gangsters, who were absconding and wanted by the state police in Sanjay Gupta alias Bakra murder case.

''One of the accused identified as Deepak Dogra alias Minta, a local resident was arrested by the police on specific information last night, while a Chinese pistol used in the murder was also recovered from his possession,'' Mr Khan said.

He said the gangsters -- Ashwani Kumar alias Master Ashu and Rajeev Kumar alias Raju were shot dead on the intervening night of March 28-29 on Shimla-Jammu road by the accused identified as Vivek Sandhu alias Bunty, a kingpin, Jitender Singh alias Shallu and Deepak Dogra alias Minta (arrested).

''The deceased were absconding after killing a notorious criminal Sanjay Gupta alias Bakra on November 25, 2006 in the posh Trikuta Nagar locality here. They were putting up in Shimla,'' the DIG said asserting, ''both the gangsters were being sheltered by the kingpin Vivek Sandhu, on whose directions, they killed Sanjay alias Bakra.'' However, failed to meet their day to day demands, the mastermind Vivek Sandhu executed a plan to get rid of them (gangsters) and he hired two persons from Jammu namely Deepak Dogra and Jitender Singh to assassinate them.

''Sandhu picked both of them (deceased) from district Kathua for Shimla. On reaching Shimla-Jammu highway, the mastermind Sandhu played a trick and got out of the car while the shooters, who were waiting for them on the spot, opened fire in which both the gangsters were shot dead,'' the DIG said.

''The bodies were thrown out of the car and accused fled away from the spot,'' the DIG said and added that after working on various theories and with the co-operation of Himachal police, one of the accused has been arrested along with a Chinese pistol while vehicle used in the killing has also been seized from a local garage.

''Hunt is on to apprehend the kingpin Vivek Sandhu and his accomplice Jitender Singh and both will soon be trapped on the disclosure of Minta, who is being interrogated, '' Mr Khan said.
