Insurance cover for women SHGs on cards: Renuka
Puducherry, Apr 4 (UNI) The Centre proposes to introduce an integrated insurance coverage for women self-help groups, Minister of State (independent charge) for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said today.
Laying the foundation stone for a hostel for backward classes students at Kirumambakkam, near here, she said following empowerment, women had attained self-sufficiency in all aspects.
Ms Chowdhury, who listed out the various schemes of her ministry for the welfare of women and children, said she had visited the juvenile home at Ariyankuppam here and had an interaction with the inmates. Most of the children had run away from home unable to bear the torture of their fathers in an inebriated condition. She also stressed the need to prevent female foeticide.
Speaking on the occasion, Puducherry Welfare Minister M Kandasamy said the administration had introduced the cradle baby scheme here yesterday to prevent killing of female infants. The administration proposed to implement several schemes for the development of women and children, he said but refused to divulge details as the budget was in session.
He said about Rs 11 crore had been sent to the government for the expansion of the juvenile home.
Later in a chat with newspersons, Ms Chowdhury said martial arts would be introduced in all girls schools in the country and computer training would be given to inmates of juvenile homes and in schools for the destitutes.
