Shimla, Apr 4 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today said that the government could have acted on its own on the Shanan Committee report on PTA appointments by the previous government, but it still brought the issue to the House for discussion.
''We wanted to know the views of members and will take the decision,'' he said while intervening in the debate on the issue.
Mr Dhumal said when the previous government had suddenly started recruiting teachers on PTA, the BJP, in opposition then, had raised the issue in the House.
He said the Trained Graduate Teachers in Arts have been waiting for their appointment since 1985 and great injustice was meted out to them, when they did not get employment even through the PTA in the previous government.
The Congress had talked about the mental state of 6806 teachers recruited through PTA in case they lose job, but it has forgotten that there are thousands of other unemployed people also who were qualified but were ignored despite merit, he added.
The Chief Minister said the previous government had handled the PTA appointments in a confused manner and had thereby issued 20 notifications in two years on the issue.
