London, Apr 4 : They have relaxed themselves with needlework and jam-making for years, but now two members of Hampshire's Women's Institute are set to embark on a rather off-colour activity - touring brothels.
Shirley Landells, 73, and Jean Johnson, 62, will be touring Amsterdam's red-light district and an American "bunny ranch" dubbed "the best whorehouse in the west," and will also be questioning hookers and pimps in New Zealand.
Later, they will be pouring in details of their visit to fellow WI members so that they could work towards legalising prostitution and improving protection for working girls.
It was Jean, resident of Four Marks, Hants, who took the initiative last October.
"Neither of us have been to a brothel before, so it'll be an eye-opener," The Sun quoted her, as saying.
On the other hand, Widow Shirley, of Cheriton, near Winchester, said: "It won't be easy, but someone has to look after these girls' welfare."
