Cocoon rearing scheme proposed in three districts in MP
Bhopal, Apr 4 (UNI) A proposal has been sent by the Madhya Pradesh Government to the Centre for starting cocoon rearing scheme in three districts at a cost of Rs 7.23 crore.
The implementation of the five-year scheme -- prepared by the Sericulture Department under the Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana -- would cover Balaghat, Mandla and Dindori districts and envisages providing employment to about 2,000 people, an official release here said.
Besides, it would lead to production of 14.39 metric tonnes of reeled yarn and 6.07 tonnes of spun yarn.
Under another scheme, fresh plantation of tusser saplings is being undertaken in 15,000 hectare area under the Tusser Sericulture Development and Extension Programme with the coordination of Forest Department and co-participation of districts.
Similarly, tusser worm rearing programme is being undertaken by the joint forest management committees of the Forest department in forests where tusser edible trees grow naturally. This programme is expected to produce two crore natural cocoons and 837 lakh reared cocoons, the release added.
