Thane, Apr 3: The district unit of BJP today organised 'rasta roko' at nearly fifty locations and blocked vehicular traffic on the highways for hours to draw the Maharashtra government's attention towards the soaring prices of essential commodities, and water and power shortages among others.

The agitation was organised by state and local leaders. Among them were MLCs Vinod Tawde, Sanjay Kelkar, MLA Vishnu Sawra, district chief Bhai Girkar and former MP Chintaman Wanga.

According to the leader of the BJP women's wing chief Manisha Chowdhary, who led the 'rasta roko' agitation along with thousands of women at Manor near Palghar, they were allegedly manhandled by the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the region. The women later called off the agitation after assurance from the senior district officials, who apologised for the wrongdoing by the police official. The agitation was peaceful, police said, adding, the traffic however was affected for hours.
