Aizawl, Apr 3(UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga today called on Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu in New Delhi to discuss the road sector projects in the state.
Official sources here said Mr Baalu informed the Chief Minister that the annual plan programme of Rs 120 crore had been drawn for Mizoram and the same had already been sent to the state government for sanctioning of work on National Highways during 2008-09.
The Union Minister also informed Mr Zoramthanga that sanctions for the work under various plans and schemes aggregating to Rs 78 crore were issued by the Ministry during 2007-08.
The Chief Minister requested Mr Baalu to sanction construction of a new National Highway of about 180 km in the state connecting Keitum on NH 54 and Zokhawthar trade centre at Myanmar border to facilitate a shorter trade route for southern Mizoram.
He also requested to consider the construction of 117 km road connecting Myanmar border and Nalkawn on NH 54, the sources added.
Mr Baalu assured the Chief Minister that his Ministry would consider the proposals of the state government depending upon the resources and inter-se priorities, the sources added.
