World Meet on Disaster Management begins Oct 21

Hyderabad, Apr 3 (UNI) The Disaster Management, Infrastructure and Control Society (SMICS) would organise the first World Conference on Disaster Management (WCDM 2008) from October 21 to 24 in the city.

Addressing the press here, Steering Committee Chairman of the Congress and DRDO Chief Controller (Research and Development) Prahlada said the meeting would involve professionals from all walks of life like scientists, researchers and environmentalists with a view to focus on the priority areas needing immediate attention.

Stating representatives from 50 countries, including Europe,the US and Russia would participate, Dr Prahlada added the Congress would help prepare a strategy in dealing with natural and man-made disasters.

Technology would play an important role in mitigating the human and property loss in the disasters, he said, adding the theme of the Congress also included the disasters identified by the High Power Committee of the United Nations.
