Mumbai, Apr 3: The sensitive index of Bombay Stock Exchange drifted between positive and negative in the opening trade on bouts of volatility. Sensex resumed the session today with a positive gap of 55.23 at 15,805.63 and then fluctuated between red and green by moving high at 15,886.04 and to a low at 15,699.21 in the mid-morning.
The broader based Nifty was almost flat today, trading at a marginal gap of 10 to 15 points. The market breadth was positive. On BSE, 931 shares advanced as compared to 505 that declined and 43 shares remained unchanged. The BSE Midcap index rose 0.23 per cent to Rs 6,427.47 and Smallcap index was marginally up at 7,919.43. Index heavyweight, Reliance Industries gained nearly one per cent to Rs 2,366. State Bank of India rose 0.51 per cent to Rs 1,661.
As per provisional data, foreign funds sold shares worth a net Rs 135.65 crore yesterday. Domestic funds bought shares worth Rs 264.37 crore.
Foreign funds were net buyers of Rs 1,773.24 crore in the futures &options segment on the same day. According to data released by the NSE, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers of index futures to the tune of Rs 1,563.18 crore and bought index options worth Rs 43.98 crore. They were net buyers of stock futures to the tune of Rs 164.07 crore and bought stock options worth Rs 2.01 crore.
