Itanagar, Apr 3 (UNI) Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Kiren Rijiju has demanded holding of the Panchayat polls in the state on proper time so that the common man would not be inconvenienced.
The MP appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and state Election Commission to complete the elections to the local self government before the first week of May or after September in view of school examinations in March and monsoon from middle of May to September.
''If the elections are conducted in an unsuitable time, the officials, paramilitary forces and the general public will have to face untold sufferings,'' he pointed out.
He said during elections all government machineries were diverted to the electoral process, including the heavy movement of political workers, and therefore keeping in mind the difficulties involved, the date should be fixed as per convenience of the people.
Stating that the fate of Panchayat elections in the state still remained undecided due to uncertainty in planning, Mr Rijiju said the timing for the elections from the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha to the Panchayat is decided by the ECI as per the convenience of the people after due recommendation from the state government.
