Madurai, Apr 3 (UNI) Police have stepped up security measures in the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu in view of escalation in violent incidents in the State as a reprisal to the attacks in Karnataka over the standoff between the two States on the Hogenakkal drinking water project.
Police sources said as a protective measure, round-the-clock police patrolling had been intensified and police pickets have been posted in sensitive places. Adequate precautionary measures have been taken by the South Zone police to maintain law and order.
Police protection had been given to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) booking office at Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand in the city, from where the KSRTC was operating bus services to Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka.
Meanwhile, armed police protection was given to the Mysore-bound Tuticorin-Mysore Express. A team of five armed policemen of the Government Railway Police (GRP), headed by a Sub-Inspector of Police, was travelling in the train to instil confidence among the rail passengers.
