Tension prevails in Dindigul
Dindigul, Apr 2 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Dindigul town as police resorted to lathi charge at two places to chase away Hindu Munnani (HM) activists and locals, who resorted to a road roko agitations, demanding action against policemen here today.
The trouble surfaced yesterday when a group of people belonging to a particular community tried to erect a name board in the Narayana Pillai Thottam locality in the town.
Opposing the move, the HM activists also erected another name board in the area.
Sensing danger of a possible communal clash, police removed the boards and ordered both the groups not to erect any name boards.
However, defying the order, the HM activists again erected another name board last night which was again removed by the police.
Seven HM activists were arrested in connection with the incident.
It was alleged that the police assaulted three women, who were reportedly admitted to the government hospital here.
As many as 32 persons were arrested in connection with the agitation and police pickets had been posted in the area to prevent further trouble.
