Six imposters held in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Apr 2 (UNI) Six persons, masquerading as Income Tax department officials, were arrested by police from Gandhinagar, the city's outskirts, today.
Police have identified the accused as Mahesh Bhagwan Gore, Sanjay Raghunath Yadav, Arjun Ichalkaranje, Ananda Sagar Pujari, Sachin Gorakh Kamble, Rahul Vilas Babar, all from neighbouring Sangli district.
The accused, led by Gore, knocked on the door of Dileep Singhani at around 0500 hrs and told him that they were Income Tax officers and wanted to conduct search operation. After that, they told him to take them to his shop. At that time, Gore demanded a bribe of Rs 7 lakh to prevent the raid.
Dileep, who became suspicious of the episode, narrated the whole incident to his friend Shankar Dulari in Sindhi language, who contacted the Income Tax office through his consultant. The IT officials told him that no such raid was underway, police said.
Then, Mr Dulari informed the police, who swung into action and arrested all of them, they added.
