Kolkata, Apr 02 (UNI) The Panchayat election in West Bengal would begin on May 11 and the poll process would be completed in three phases, Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty said today.
Mr Chakraborty told mediapersons at the State Secretariat that the election would be held on May 11, May 14 and May 18.
He said the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 16.
''The government is committed to making the three-tier Panchayat poll in the state a success and has taken all adequate arrangements,'' Mr Chakraborty observed.
He informed that a high-level meeting had been convened at the Writers' Buildings on April 7 to oversee the poll preparations adding 100 companies of central forces were sought to help make the election free and fair.
