AIADMK stages demo against acquisition of agri-lands for SEZ
Madurai, Apr 2 (UNI) Over 1,000 cadres of the Opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), including 200 women, today staged a demonstration in protest against the acquisition of agricultural lands for the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) here.
The agitators, led by party State Organising Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Speaker P H Pandiyan, urged the Tamil Nadu Government to immediately stop acquiring agricultural lands for the SEZ project at Valayankulam and its surrounding villages in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pandiyan cited the violent incidents at Nandigram Village in West Bengal over the SEZ project and urged the Government not to acquire fertile lands. The AIADMK would put up a stiff resistance with the support of the farming community, if the State Government did not accept their demand.
