Lucknow, Apr 1: Uttar Pradesh traffic police personnel will be seen in a new uniform from today thus joining a select band in the country.
Replacing age-old white trousers and white shirt, about 400 traffic head constables and 3000 constables of UP will now be seen in blue trousers and white shirts as traffic personnel of several big cities wore.
The decision to this effect was taken by a high level committee headed by Additional Director General of Police (PAC) earlier this year.
''The purpose behind the move is that the existing white uniform got dirty easily due to dust and pollution and it looked indecent,'' the Director, Traffic, UP A K Gupta told UNI here.
He said the department would reimburse Rs 1200 annually to traffic personnel for the new uniform.
During the summers the colour of the uniform would be white shirt and blue trousers but in winters, the traffic constables would also wear light blue colour jackets.
