Two senior TSR officials accused of locker theft
Agartala, April 1 (UNI) Two senior Tripura State Rifles (TSR) officers have been accused of taking unauthorised custody of an iron locker belonging to a tribal family in South Tripura.
Police sources said here today that both the officers were interrogated by the Superintendent of Police (South Tripura) and CID Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rakesh Ranjan yesterday.
A tribal woman Sumitra Jamatia of remote Maruapara village had filed a case that a group of TSR jawans, led by Commandant Manik Lal Majumdar and Assistant Commandant Pinaki Samanta, took away an iron locker with some valuables from her house when the family was attending a social function at their neighbour's house on March 29.
Meanwhile, Mr Majumdar and Mr Samanta admitted that they had carried out search operations on specific information in the tribal woman's house and the jawans had detained the locker but did not deposit it with the police.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and finally referred the case to the CID, the police officials added.
