Chandel (Manipur), Apr 01 : Tribals, mainly women of Manipur, took out a protest march against State government's apathy in booking the culprits involved in twin murders on March 21.
The two women from Chandel district in Manipur were found shot dead onarch 21.
The protestors claimed that the Chief Minister had retracted on his assurance given on March 23 to the Chandel People's Action Committee (CPAC) that the murderers would be booked.
The rally, which kicked off from Chandel Higher Secondary School, concluded after submitting a memorandum to the district deputy commissioner for onward submission to the state Chief Minister.
"I feel this is a very inhuman act and they are just taking advantage of the weakness of the women," said Tongfin Bleaa, a lady protestor.
"They must be feeling that these tribal women are foolish and they cannot do anything, but we are ready to go to any extent and we are just not going to give up," she added.
Slogans like "Respect women's rights", "We want culprits booked immediately", Stop killing innocent people", etc. were carried by the rallyists, who were predominantly women.
Speaking at the meeting, ST Nunglung, convener of CPAC condemned the State government's failure to book the culprits and said that it was shameful that it could not safeguard civilians.
