Sonia Gandhi to visit Tamil Nadu on Apr 5
Madurai, Apr 1: A red carpet welcome would be accorded to UPA Chairperson and AICC president Sonia Gandhi during her daylong visit to Karaikudi in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu on April 5.
A senior Congress leader told to the sources that Mrs Gandhi would dedicate a new auditorium constructed at a cost of Rs three crore by Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, in memory of his father at the Alagappa University in Karaikudi and later address a farmers and women's rally, organised to thank the UPA Government for the massive Rs 60,000 crore farm loan waiver.
He said Mrs Gandhi would leave New Delhi by a special flight at 1200 hrs and reach Tiruchirapalli at 1430 hrs. After a brief interaction with Congress leaders at the airport, she would leave by a helicopter and reach Alagappa University at Karaikudi by 1530 hrs.
After winding up her day's visit to Tamil Nadu, Mrs Gandhi would reach Tiruchirapalli and board a special flight from there to New Delhi, he said adding that TNCC was making elaborate arrangements for her visit.
Inspector-General of Police (South Zone) Sanjeev Kumar told to the sources over phone that massive security arrangements had been made in southern districts in view of Mrs Gandhi's visit.
