Jalandhar, Apr 1 (UNI) Lok Bhallai Party (LBP) today felicitated Canada-based NRI Sucha Singh Kaler for upholding Punjabi and Punjabiat in North America at a function here.
Speaking on the occasion, LBP president Balwant Singh Ramoowalia said that Mr Kaler was instrumental in promoting Punjabi language in Cananda and now it is the fourth largest spoken language in Canada.''Even at some places, sign boards on roads are in Punjabi,''he added.
Mr Kaler, who hails from village Jagatpura in the district and moved to England in 1962 and then migrated to Canada in 1969 and working as editor of Indo-Candadian Times newspaper said, ''Punjabi is better spoken and used in Canada then in Punjab.'' Appriciating the efforts of Punjab government for passing a Bill in the Vidhan Sabha for making use of Punjabi language compulsory in official work, Mr Kaler said,''The real task ahead of the government is the proper implementation of the resolution passed in the Assembly for promotion of the language.'' Mr Ramoowalia said that Mr Kaler is the president of Lok Bhallai Party in Canada and his wife Harbans Kaur, who was accompaning him, was instrumental in getting released Rs five lakh of a Nakodar based youth Amandeep Singh, which he had paid to a girl from Canada for taking him there.
The boy's parents gave Rs 8 lakh to the girl after Amandeep got engaged to her, he said adding that the girl broke the engagment and refused to return the money. With the efforts of Mrs Harbans Kaur, the girl was forced to return the money and out of Rs eight lakh,she gave back Rs five lakh to Amandeep parents, he said.
On the occasion, Mr Ramoowalia also returned Rs 2.70 to three different persons duped by travel agents.
