Gangtok, Apr 1 (UNI) Full fledged municipality elections in Sikkim will be held for the first time on June 11 this year.
Sikkim did not have any rural governing bodies since 1985 as at that time there was only Gangtok municipality body.
This time, the government has set up elections for a three tier rural body-Municipality Corporation (1), Municipality Council (4) and Nagar Panchayats (8) based on the population in the state.
The capital of the state, Gangtok, will be the only Municipality Corporation.
Elections to municipalities have been fixed on June 11, said Vishal Chauhan, East District Collectorate.
Chauhan informed that segregation of electoral rolls for east district and three other districts was going on. The elections will be based on the Assembly electoral rolls, he said.
Meanwhile, the district administration has issued a final call for those left out to come forward for electoral photo identity card.
''Around 10-15 per cent people in east Sikkim were left out and we will be issuing notices to each of them for electoral photo identity card,'' he said.
Arrangements had been made at East District Administrative Centre and Block Development Office at Pakyong for photo voter cards till April 20, the DC informed.
If the left out people do not respond to this final call then their names will be struck off the electoral roll, warned Chauhan.
