Madurai, Apr 1: Tension prevailed at Anaikkaraipatti and Meyyanuthampatti villages in this district, after 14 people were injured in a group clash between villagers over previous enmity last night.
Police sources here today said 14 people were injured when the villagers clashed and attacked each other with deadly weapons and hurled country-made bombs over issues in the recently held local body elections.
Several houses belonging to the two groups were set on fire during the clash, police said adding the injured were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital here.
On receiving information, senior police officials along with a large number of force rushed to the spot to defuse the tense situation.
When contacted by the sources, Superintendent of Police T S Anbu said the situation was under control. Over 200 policemen were deployed in both the villages to prevent further trouble.
Investigations were going on, no but one was arrested so far, he said and added that stern action would be taken against those found guilty.
