Two militants holed up in a mosque in north Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 31 (UNI) Sharp shooters have taken position around a local mosque in north Kashmir where two militants are holed up since this afternoon.
A police spokesman said the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Army and CRPF launched a joint operation at village Papchan Bandipora, about 55 km from here, following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
He said when the security forces where about to storm a particular area, militants opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons.
The fire was returned but the militants managed to enter a nearby mosque.
Reinforcement was rushed to the area from near by camps and cordon around the mosque was further tightened to foil militants attempt to escape.
Efforts are being made to persuade the militants to surrender, he said.
