Tibet support groups protest Chinese action
Siliguri, Mar 31 (UNI) Thousands of activists of Tibet support groups today paraded in this commercial town of North Bengal to protest ''crackdown'' on protesters in Tibet and elsewhere in China.
Over 5000 activists, holdings banners and placards, began marching from Salughora and shouted slogans condemning the Chinese repression of protesters including lamas and nuns in Tibet.
The protest march after criss-crossing main throughfares for an hour ended at Hashmi Chowk, the heart of Siliguri. They also performed street plays to demonstrate the ''torture'' of the Chinese police on ''unarmed'' Buddhist lamas and nuns.
About seven non-profit organisations, including Bharat-Tibet Maitree Sangha, Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association, Himalayan Parivar, took part in the peaceful protest march that affected traffic on the busy Hill Cart road for some time.
