Hockey camp begins for Four Nation and Azlan Sha tourneys

Bangalore, Mar 31 (UNI) Overcoming then failure to a win berth in the Beijing Olympics in August, the senior Indian hockey team probables arrived here for a 19-day camp in preparation for the forthcoming Four Nation tournament at Perth and Darwin from April 24 and Sultan Azlan Sha tournament to be held in Malaysia from May 8.

Team Manager R K Shetty told UNI that the 40 probables will undergo rigorous training under Chief Coach Joaquim Carvalho and added almost all the players had arrived.

However, the squad would be missing former captain and defender Dilip Tirkey who is suffering from an injury, drag flicker Sandeep Singh who was injured in the final of the K D Singh Babu tournament in Lucknow yesterday. However, Arjun Halappa, who was off the field for more than a year was elated over his inclusion in the list of probables.

Replying to a question, Mr Shetty said that the final squad for the four nation tourney may be announced in the second week of April in Bangalore.

He said the probables will be divided into two teams and play matches and once the team was announced they may play matches against local teams. During the camp the shortcomings of the Olympic qualifier matches would be looked into besides Physical exercise.

The list of probables: Baljit Singh, Bharath Kumar Chetri, Sreejesh, Adrian D'Souza, William Xalxo, V R Raghunath, Diwakar Ram, Rupinder Pal, Manjeet Kullu, Sameer Baxia, Innocent Kullu, Gurbaj Singh, V S Vinoya, Arjun Halappa, Ranjit Singh, Sardar Singh, Probot Tirkey, Vikram Kanth, Igneous Tirkey, Ajittesh Roy, Birender Lakra, Amandip Ikka, Guruvinder Chandi, Rajpal Singh, Sivendera Singh, Tushar Khandekar, Prabhjot Singh, Roshan Minz, S V Sunil, Bharat Chikara, Cheeyanna, Damandeep Singh, Lalit Upadhay, Ravi Pal Singh, Inderjit Singh Chadda, Sarvanjit Singh, Senthil, Raja, Jaswinder Singh.
