Hyderabad, Mar 31 (UNI) The BJP today called off its 'Maha Dharna' midway demanding the Andhra Pradesh government to distribute house sites and construction of houses to poor people, followng an assurance by the Commissoner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corppration of (GHMC) C V K Sharma.
The agitation was held there by the city unit of the BJP.
Andhra Pradesh unit BJP President Bandaru Dattatreya, addressing the gathering said the Commissioner met the leaders at the dharna venue and assured to look into the demand and refer the matter to the state government.
He said the party also decided to give time to the state government to solve their problems within eight days and added it would intensify the agitation for the construction of houses under 'Indiramma' and 'Rajiv Gruhakalpa' schemes, house sites and pensions to the poor people of the GHMC, if the assurance was not fulfilled within that time.
He alleged that the Congress-ruled state government has cheated the poor by failing to fulfill the promises made by the party that every poor family would get a house.
