Kochi, Mar 31 (UNI) Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh today welcomed the Supreme Court order, dismissing a petition against Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan in the Barabanki land dispute case.
Accusing the Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh of foisting a ''baseless case on Bachchan'', Mr Singh said the case against the film star was ''state terrorism''.
Describing Bachchan as a ''national icon'', he regretted that the Big B had become a ''soft target'' of attack by communal forces in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
''In politics, there should be no place for vindictiveness. The Supreme Court order today has proven that truth will prevail,'' Mr Singh said at a press conference here.
Condemning the police action against the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) activists in Muzzafarnagar today, he said Ms Mayawati, ''who dreams of becoming the Prime Minister, is petrified of Mahendra Singh Tikait and the BKU. That is why she sent police to crush a peaceful agitation by the BKU.'' UNI ARC GD MIR KN1941
