12 awarded life imprisoment in 2001 Nithari hooch tragedy

Noida, Mar 31 (UNI) A fast track court today awarded life imprisonment to the 12 accused in the Nithari hooch tragedy in 2001 which claimed the lives of about 24 people.

Additional District Judge Mangla Prasad Yadav pronounced the sentence and slapped a fine of Rs 32000.

The accused were identified as Deepak Nai, Devender Kumar, Pintu, Irshad, Ramveer, Ratanlal, Raghuveer, Manish, Omprakash, Pramod, Rajesh and Ramchand alias Kundan.

On 14 and 15 October, 2001 in Nithari village about 24 people died after consuming poisonous liquor. Twelve people involved in making and selling liquor were arrested in this regard.
