Two-day All India Mayors' Conference starts in Rajkot
Rajkot, Mar 30 (UNI) Gujarat Urban Development Minister Nitinbhai Patel today inaugurated a two-day ''All India Mayors' Conference'' here.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister rued that slow infrastructural development and high population growth were hampering the nation's development.
''Till today, we are facing problems of basic necessities like drinking water, roads and electricity in many states. Growing slum areas in the cities are also cause for concern and we should take remedial steps,'' he said.
The Minister said that for the city's development, mayors and Corporators can play crucial roles as they directly relate with people and they are aware of city's problems.
The All India Mayor's Conference has been organised under the aegis of the National Resource Centre on Urban and Poverty (NRCUP), Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES), All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG) and Rajkot Municipal Corporation.
As many as 140 delegates, including 23 Mayors and 17 Deputy Mayors,from 12 states are participating in the conference.
