Tension prevails in Jalandhar Jail after inmate's death
Jalandhar, Mar 30 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the Central Jail here when the inmates, agitated over the death of an undertrial this morning, threw stones at the jail staff and set off minor fires.
Poilce fired five rounds in the air to quell the protesting inmates, Jail Suprintendent G S Sidhu told UNI.
The inmates were protesting against the death of an undertrial Jaspal Singh, who died this moring probably due to heart attack he said, adding that the exact cause of death would be known only after the post mortem.
Shouting slogans against the jail authorities for not providing timely medical help to the deceased, the agitated prisoners pelted stones and set some heaps of waste material on fire.
Earlier this year, in a futile attempt to escape from the jail, the inmates set some part of jail on fire and one undertrial was injured when police opened fire to control the situation.
