Patna, Mar 30 (UNI) The Janta Dal (United) today demanded the central government to launch special campaign for filling the vancancies of backward classes.
Addressing a press conference here, party National General Secretary-Cum Spokesman Shambhu Sharan Srivastav said backward classes, including SCs and STs occupied only 5.21 percent in Central services, which was apathetic. ''We demand the Central government to fill the quotas fixed for them which is 26 per cent for OBC, 14 per cent for SC and nine per cent for ST by a Special Drive for their recruitment.'' He maintained, that the government should ensure reservation for the students of Backward classes in the Institutions for higher learning.He also demanded reservation for women belonging to minority communities in the provision of 33 per cent reservation for them tabled in Parliament.
He appreciated the recommendations of the Nachiappan Committee for the redressal of grievances of Backward classes.
He also lambasted the Central government for the painful condition of the Backward Classes inspite of the fact that the Mandal-Commission had recommended several measures to fulfill their aspirations 15 years ago.
