Rameswaram, Mar 30 (UNI) In yet another incident, the Sri Lankan navy today opened fire at an Indian fishing trawler at mid sea.
Official sources said a group of 669 mechanised fishing boats set sail into the sea for fishing yesterday. While fishing near the Katchatheevu Island, a Lankan naval ship on sea patrol opened fire at one of the Indian fishing vessel, this morning.
The four crew of the vessel, managed to escape the ''unprovoked'' firing. However, the bullets hit the chimney of the vessel and damaged it. No one was injured in the firing incident.
The crew managed to return to the Rameswaram shores safely, this afternoon. Tension prevailed among the fishing folks in the Island town on hearing about the incident.
