Khalko to be the first Mayor of Ranchi
Ranchi, Mar 30 (UNI) Rama Khalko was today elected the first Mayor of Ranchi Municipal area after the state witnessed its first Municipal polls on March 25 last.
The state, formed on November 15, 2000, had not witnessed any Municipal Election since then.
Official sources said that Ms Khalko was elected after the counting, which began on March 27, completed this evening.
Altogether 34 candidates were in the fray for the coveted post.
Mr Ajaynath Shahdeo was elected as Deputy Mayor.
Besides Mr Shahdeo, 77 other people were in the fray for the post of deputy Mayor.
Polling was held in 589 wards of Ranchi Municipal Corporation, 11 Nagar Parishads and 16 Nagar Parishads of the state.
Altogether 6267 contestants were in the fray for 589 posts of ward councillors, one each for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the RMC, 27 each for post of chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Nagar Parishads and Nagar Panchayats.
