Chennai, Mar 30 (UNI) Rajya Sabha MP and former ISRO Chairman K Kasturirangan today said India is a world leader in development of space science and research and will be seen a part of the global community on planetary exploration in future.
In his acceptance speech, after he was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by the SRM University during its third convocation at its campus in suburban Kattankualthur, he said advancements in space science and research had benefitted the overall development of the country.
Dr Kasturirangan, who is also the Director of National Institute of Advanced Studies, referred to the phenomenal success of the GSLV Technology of the ISRO.
''Geosynchronous Satellite Technology was once the preserve of a few advanced countries and those nations even failed during the first launch of satellites with this technology,'' he said.
However, when the country launched its first GSLV satellite, it was a success, he said and added that the development of India's space science was indigenous and had to surmount many obstacles.
