New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) After cinema and television, the cyberspace is all set to emerge as a new medium for entertainment in India, besides providing platform for many aspiring actors and filmmakers to unveil their creativity.
The stage is set for the premiere on cyberspace, with the culimnation of the talent hunt to select faces for India's first online serial.
The winners of the 'Digistars: War of the Videos', the talent hunt show organised by Campus18 - the producers of the first 'online serial' in India, were unveiled during the weekend by its judges Makrand Deshpande and Nikhil Chinappa.
Ready to be a part of this 'Cyber entertainment revolution' in India are Mailesan Rangaswamy, the winner in the talent hunt in the 'Best Video Street Light', and Aryan Aditya, the winner of best performance 'Aakss'.
Both Mailesan and Aryan will form a part of India's first internet serial, being produced by Campus18, a brand entity of Tangerine Digital Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and a site aimed at showcasing and promoting the talents of youth in the country.
The winners in the other categories which include Pawan Kumar for 'Best Funniest Video', Ayaskantha Misra for 'Best Mash Up Video', Sushant Sudhakaran for 'Best Social Message Video', Yash dave for 'Best Story', Rohan Talwarkar for 'Best Music video' and Abhinav Tripathi for 'Best Breakthrough Concept' will also get to contribute to india's first internet serial.
Announcing the name of the winners, actor-director Makrand Deshpande said,''I truly am envious of the winners, since we had no such opportunities in our college days. We did not have such concept driver short story contests that could help us express our point of view in a great story. There is a vast pool of talent in the country which is untouched and unexplored. And, Campus 18 has introduced a new platform to expose this talent.'' The finalists were selected from over two lakh online votes, SMSes and judges rating. The contest recieevd over 500 entries from across the country.
Of the 500 video entries recieved during the hunt, 24 participants were short listed in eight categories namely 'Best overall video in the competition', 'Most versatile performer in the competition', 'Funniest one-take stand-up comedy or mimicry performance (based on original or copied material) by an individual performer', 'Funniest film, video or spoof in competition', 'Most original video created by mixing footage from two or more different visual and/or audio sources', 'Video that most effectively communicates or creates awareness about an issue of social importance', 'Film which most skillfully executes an original and creative story', 'Best Music Video: Video that most skillfully visualises an original song or previously recorded music' and 'Break through Concept : Video or film with the most stunning and out-of-the-box creative idea'.
Speaking on the occasion, MTV VJ Nikhil Chinappa said,''internet is the best platform for any aspiring filmmaker to showcase his skills and creativity. Since young people are very comfortable with the internet as medium, I'm glad Campus18 has taken this initiative to bring forth the talent of the young.'' A platform for the young and creative, 'Campus 18' website allows users to express their talent [via uploading content i.e.
blogs, pictures, music, videos], network with users of similar talents and interests and, offers recognition and opportunities for the most talented.
