Chandigarh, March 30 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced the creation of an endowment fund to introduce health insurance scheme for the needy and aged Punjabi writers and intellectuals.
Mr Badal was addressing the eminent Punjabi men of letters, who called on him to felicitate him on the State government's decision to implement Punjabi language as a compulsory subject in all schools in the State and to strictly enforce it as a medium of official communication.
Giving details of the meeting, Mr Harcharan Bains, Media Advisor to Chief Minister told newspersons that Mr Badal also announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh each for Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (Sekhon), Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, and Punjabi Sahit Academy Ludhiana.
The Chief Minister also asked the writers to prepare a detailed proposal for the grant of Rs 25 lakh for renovation of Punjabi Bhawan at Ludhiana, said Mr Bains.
