Do not go ahead with N deal, Yechury warns UPA Govt
Coimbatore, Mar 30 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury today warned that the stablility of the Congress-led Government would be at stake if it went ahead with the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.
While briefing about the Party Congress resolutions, Mr Yechury, replying to a question by mediapersons said the Left parties have made its position clear on the Indo-US Nuclear deal to the Central Government and underlined that no agreement should be made with the International Automic Energy Agency (IAEA) without their concurrence and beyond the suggestions made in the UPA-Left Coordination Committee meeting.
He said the Left parties would meet again by April end and discuss the report to be submitted by the Union Government on the progress of talks on the nuclear deal.
The UPA government should not take any agreement to the board of governance of IAEA, which means initiation of agreement, Mr Yechury said. He added that the Central Government should not ratify any such agreement.
If the UPA government enters into any agreement with the IAEA without concurrence from Left parties, the government will be taking a risk, he warned.
Answering a question, he reiterated that the Left parties were supporting the UPA government to keep the ''communal'' BJP at bay and that too on the basis of the Common Minimum programme (CMP).
