BJP MP attacked by rival group

Balasore, Mar 30 (UNI) Balasore BJP MP Kharvela Swain was attacked by a rival group of his party here last evening.

Sources said Mr Swain was assaulted, when he, along with the party's women wing leader Subhashree Das and a few other party activists was on their way to attend a party meeting at Abdula Nagar under Khantapara police station.

The supporters of late Birendra Biswal attcked him as they suspected that Mr Swain was instrumental in the defeat of Mr Biswal in last Assembly elections.

In the attack, the windshield of his vehicle was broken and Mr Swain sustained minor injuries.

After the attack both the rival groups lodged FIRs with the Khantapara police station against each other. While Mr Swain lodged the FIR against 12 people his rival group lodged complaint with police against Mr Swain and 11 others.

In another development, Mr Swain was humiliated when a meeting organised to receive a Rs 50 lakh cheque donated by SBI for the rehabilitation of the flood victims was cancelled at the last moment.

The meeting was cancelled after Youth Congress activists objected to Mr Swain's presence in the meeting and questioned the reason for organising the meeting at a hotel and "wasting public money".
