Ahmedabad, Mar 29 (UNI) Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia today said in the changing global economic scenario, government must aim for inclusive growth and has tp play much larger role in the fields of infrastructure development, public services and healthcare.

Delivering the convocation address at the 43rd annual convocation of the IIM Ahmedabad this evening, Mr Singh said that India is poised for rapid growth rate of 9 per cent. With rise in the rate of GDP growth, per capita income is also certain to rise.

Mr Ahluwalia congratulated students for successfully passing out from a prestigious institute like IIM-A and said the new generation of students are graduating at a time when nation's economy is poised for rapid growth and the whole business environment is also changing.

He underlined the role of business management institutes in toning up of the government functioning and said the government needs inputs from management students and experts.

Mr Singh said that institutes like IIM-A should constantly try to strengthen themselves. Government has established a review committee to assess the functioning of such institutions, he added.

He also stressed upon the role of alumni, citing example of alumni in American universities. He said that alumni can help in promoting the interests of the institute.

Earlier, IIM-A chairman Vijaypat Singhania, emphasising the importance of autonomy for IIM-A, said that institutions like IIM-A need to stand on their own feet and should not need financial support indefinitely by any arm of the government.
