Punjab expects bumper wheat crop of 148 lakh MT
Moga, Mar 28 (UNI) Punjab State this year expects a bumper wheat crop of 148 lakh MT against last years, production of 145.96 lakh MT and harvesting of the crop will be started in the first week of April.
In view of good prospects, the Centre has increased its procurement target from Punjab to 90 lakh MT, he said adding that the department was hoping that due to good prospects, wheat yield per acre this year will increase to 44 quintal per acre from 42.10 quintal last year.
Punjab Joint Director Department of Agriculture, Gurdev Singh Gill told UNI here that according to reports received from the field and respective district headquarters, the wheat production is likely to be more than last year.
Besides, the minimum support price is also good so the department as well as the State government were expecting higher market arrival and higher government procurement.
