'Nepal Election to be held as per schedule'

Kathmandu, March 29: Nepal Chief Election Commissioner Bhojraj Pokharel has said the Constituent Assembly election will be held as per schedule on April 10 as the preparations are almost complete. The country was completely oriented towards the election and there was no reason to worry, state run media quoted him as saying in Damauli. The Chief Commissioner was visiting the district to acquire information about the preparations of the election.

''The Constituent Assembly election would bring peace and stability to the country,'' he said, adding the Election Commission. wanted the election to be free of violence and other untoward incidents. Works related with the selection, appointment and training of polling officers, assistant polling officers and other employees were underway, Mr Pokharel said. They would be selected from among the employees of the government organisation or the organisations under the ownership or control of the government or the organisation run with the government grant, employees of the local bodies and teachers working at the community schools.

''In this situation, it becomes the duty of all to carry out the responsibility assigned to him/her by abjuring respective political or any other types of favours and prejudices,'' the Election Commission stated. Nepal was holding CA polls for the first time to write a new constitution that would also finalise the future of monarchy.

Main political parties and the Maoists have come to the peace process with the agreement to end monarchy and write the new constitution through the polls.
