Puri, Mar 29 (UNI) Chief of Army staff Dipak Kapoor today flagged off the rally of NCC cadets to create awareness in the society against female foeticide and dowry.
Addressing the cadets, Mr Kapoor said, '' We are making a movement to involve the cadets to bring a new order in the society, where the girl child would be taken care of with dignity and respect. '' There was a need to change the mindset of the old and the new generation for a positive approach towards these two major problems, he added.
The growing inequality in the male-female gender ratio was not good for the country, Mr Kapoor said adding for a developing country socio-economic and industrial progress was necessary.
Earlier, the Army Chief landed at the Puri helipad and went to Sri Jagannath temple along with his wife.
They were accorded a warm welcome by the priests, who escorted them to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
The couple offered prayers to Lord Jagannath.
Later in the day, the chief visited Konark by road and on his way he visited the ongoing DRDO radar project work located along the Puri -Konark marine drive road.
