JK Rowling visits jail to support inmates' reading efforts
London, Mar 29 : Harry Potter creator JK Rowling has motivated prisoners learning to read by visiting them in jail.
The best-selling author visited inmates at Edinburgh and presented them with awards.
Rowling was invited to do the honours by the Shannon Trust, a London-based charity that helps prisoners across the UK learn to read.
"We were delighted that JK Rowling was able to visit. She gave the prisoners a real boost... a real incentive to continue learning," the Scotsman quoted David Ahern of the charity, as saying.
"Prison can be a lonely place for learners, so knowing there are international figures like JK Rowling supporting them makes a huge difference," he added.
